Singles Hiking Groups in CT

The Connecticut Hiking Alliance is the right group for active hikers who enjoy each other's company both on and off the trail. We believe that hiking, backpacking, snow shoeing, river sports, or any other type of out door adventure is made better when combined with social events where we can get together for a drink or a meal and relive the day's exploits. This means that after every hike and outing... We really build friendships in this group and hope you will partake. We quickly and warmly welcome new members. If you have a sweet spot for a specific group, organization or charity seeking support - let us know and we'll create an Act of Kindness for them. Take a look at the albums on our photo page. If you participate in our outings you will be photographed a lot. If you are part of the witness protection program, or otherwise camera shy, this group is not for you. Most of our hikes are for moderate to experienced hikers. Once in a while we do host hikes that are appropriate for beginners. Please read the full description for any specific event to determine if your skill level is a match. We've only cancelled once for weather... We don't want anyone breaking laws! So if it rains or snows we'll still go! Some of our most interesting and memorable events have involved rain or snow. Please be considerate of others regarding RSVPs. Those who aren't considerate with their RSVPs will find we have a 3 Strikes concept. This means that with 3 no-shows, one's membership with our group ends and you will be removed from The CT Hiking Alliance membership. You would at that time have the opportunity to go through the effort of rejoining and then use the little effort it takes to keep RSVPs current. Let's get out and play! Elevation at this point gets my heart going to about 190 beats per minute and for some reason, I can never see the views. Until then, I have to stay inside. My legs and arms are almost ready for hiking. I need to pack lots of snacks because I'm always hungry! I enjoy hikes that are 2 or more hours in duration. The Orange trail at Sleeping Giant is one of my favorites. I live in Milford and have been looking for a group to hike with. I frequently hike at Sleeping Giant. I enjoy outdoor activities and meeting people who enjoy the same. I look forward to meeting members of your group. Owl's Head three times! I have my 48, looking forward to doing the rest in winter. I love being outdoors!! Bike, Hike, Swim, Paddle...... In the past I have done some 14,000 peaks in California and Colorado and some backpacking in Yosemite. About 20 miles a week and favor anything that has lots of hills. Also like to play tennis and walk around town. I've summitted greylock, bear, and everett. Any questions, just ask! See ya on the trail. So come out and play! Looking forward to meeting and hiking with you as some of my friends are already hiking with this group. I am more of a local hiker--CT, MA, NH. Have all the gear and it is always packed... This hike has been sponsored beginning in the early 1900's and has been held during the late fall each year since. My friend Dave Adams is a member and graciously invited our club to attend this year. See instructions below to purchase advance dinner tickets by October 29 if you plan on attending the dinner afterwards! The legendary Metawampe was a local Indian who lived in the Pioneer Valley during the mid-1600s. Though not known for certain, he is believed to have been a chief and leader of the Nonotuck alternatively Norwottok Indians. In the absence of additional information, all we can know is that he was a local Indian of high rank who lived in the Connecticut River area north of Hadley. In October 1907 several faculty, while hiking on Mt. Toby, agreed to form a hiking club dedicated to encouraging fitness and comradeship among MAC faculty and students. Membership in the club was automatic for anyone associated with MAC. The Club planned hikes each Saturday and on holidays for many years. These included hiking trips to mountains all around New England. One of the annual outings was the hike over Mt. Toby, first held in 1908. Tickets to the dinner portion of the 2018 111th annual Metawampe Hike and Dinner Sunday, November 4 are available! Currently in CT, there is no legislation preventing state agencies to sell or transfer public land like the land upon which we hike to non-state entities. Voting YES amends our state constitution such that:1. A legislative committee must hold a public hearing to allow for public comment on property transfer currently they don't notify the public. The legislation must address only the property under consideration. So please get out and vote... If you belong to another hiking, kayaking, outdoor or conservation group in CT, please ask them to post this. Likewise all you facebook people.. So come out and play! If your hiking capabilities are not strong enough for this adventure, or if you haven't hiked with us, you will be moved by the leader to the No list sorry. This hike is noted to be UNboring and the best place to scramble in the Gunks. We wiill be off trail so everyone attending must stay with the leader. For those who have time constraints... I can give no guarantees on timing. My plan is to be done hiking by 3. But that's a plan. We may use a back up plan! We hike at 1015. Arrive BEFORE 10:15 am. You must bring: 1. Grippy gloves - the grippy kind for rock scrambling. Nano spikes in case of dampness, rain, light ice. The beginning of the hike is on trail. Off trail means no trail. All hikers joining CT Hiking Alliance outings must wear boots and appropriate hiking clothing no blue jeans. Layers that are easy to peel off and on are especially important. You will get very warm while we hike. It's often cooler in this area so be prepared. Inappropriate wear may actually make the hike difficult for you and if you have difficulty it will impact the other hikers. Please bring at LEAST 2 liters of water and snacks - especially items containing protein and sugars. Also bring a snack or two, lunch and at least THREE quarts of water! Bring Gu available at REI, EMS, etc in case you run out of steam. Bring Shotblocks available at REI, EMS, etc in case you get leg cramps or signs of dehydration. Please don't count on the leaders to bail you out with their emergency supplies. Be fair, come prepared. Layers are a must. It may be cold in the morning and you will heat up as you hike and the temperatures of the day will rise but it may still be cool when we stop for breaks. It's often a LOT chillier on the higher sections of a trail than at the base. Keep that in mind. Cotton is NOT appropriate wear during activities that cause you to sweat and cool, therefore please select your hiking apparel accordingly. No cotton tee shirts, no denim or jeans. I grant the Connecticut Hiking Alliance permission to use any photographs, film or videotapes of this event for any purpose. And the Hiking Alliance takes AND posts lots of photos. If you are camera shy or in the witness protection program, this hiking group is not for you. The exits are NOT in numerical order along this westbound section of 84. Comfortable clothes - ones that wick perspiration would be idea. There is NO FEE to participate in the Walk to Defeat ALS. Each registered participant will have his or her own fundraising page. You may make a donation in your name and also encourage others to help you meet your personal goal - which becomes part of the team's fund-raising. Virtual walkers are also encouraged to register for the team. Apres-Act outing: The Sandpiper, 161 Cosey Beach Ave, East Haven, CT 06512. About a 10 minute drive away right across from Cosey Beach. Our team, Paul's Ramblers, is named in memory of Kathleen's husband, Paul Miller, a life-long hiker and outdoorsman, who succumbed to ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease, in 2010. The ALS Association of Connecticut provided support to us during Paul's illness, and they continue today to provide vital emotional, practical and financial support to victims and their families. Many victims are in the prime of life, have dependents, and the illness places a huge emotional and financial burden on families as they care for their loved one. Membership in the club was automatic for anyone associated with MAC. The Club planned hikes each Saturday and on holidays for many years. These included hiking trips to mountains all around New England. One of the annual outings was the hike over Mt. Toby, first held in 1908.
